Summer is coming fast and we are in warp drive… what ever that is! There is much to be accomplished and so little time. Coming up on Memorial Day (the 31st) is our Annual Work Day and Picnic. This is open to anyone who wants to come and help prepare the camp site for another summer program. We will start around 9 AM and tie things up around 4 PM but you can come when you want and leave when you can’t stay any longer. We will have the picnic around 1 PM. Camp is providing the hot dogs and hamburgers as well as the drinks for the picnic… you can bring anything that you would like to go with the fine camp cuisine.
Some of the projects we will be working on will be deep cleaning for summer, painting, metal roofing on lodge and the never ending task of cleaning up dead and downed trees. If you have a chainsaw and would like to help with this part of clean up it would be greatly appreciated. Bring a pair of gloves and an appetite!
I am looking forward to a great time of fellowship as we work together to get things ready for summer 2010! Be sure and give me a call (or email) if you have any questions.
The summer information is up! Look on the “summer camp” page for a listing of the different camp programs. Click on the links to view more information concerning each camp.
The information for the Bow Hunter’s Retreat and Crafter’s Retreat is up as well. Note that you can register and pay online.
Some things to pray for:
- Pray that God would work through the upcoming retreats.
- Completion of the new boy’s bath house by summer.
- Staff for the summer program.
- Pray that God would use the summer program in the lives of many young people for His glory!
We start off this new year with our first ever Music Retreat. This retreat is not about music skills, rather it is about what the Bible says about music. Our guests are Mac and Beth Lynch. God has used Mac to write such songs as “The Steps of a Good Man”, “He Knoweth the Way”, “Make Me a Stranger” and many others. Some of the topics we will be covering are music philosophy, biblical principles applied to today’s music and a look at how the heart is reflected in music. I know that music can be a controversial subject but this is not an “in your face” attempt to get “your” music to look like “our” music… rather it is a sincere look at scripture with a desire to apply biblical truth to the subject of music all for the purpose of honoring our Lord. Come and enjoy the good food and fellowship while reaping the benefits of learning from God’s Word! You can learn more about the Music Retreat HERE!
In February we are having our annual Men’s Retreat. Do you ever look at the world around you and wonder what is going on? Do you see the changes in our financial, cultural and political climates? How does a christian respond to all these changes? What is a biblical response to the world around us? Come to the retreat and find out as five different men open the Word of God concerning this subject. I am really looking forward to this time together with the men. As the hour grows darker the opportunities abound for the light to shine brighter. Find out more about the Men’s Retreat HERE!
Just an update on the boys bath house. The exterior is done, the water is connected, the power is connected, the plumbing (minus the boiler) and electrical are done and most of the insulation work is done. What’s left to do? The installation of the boiler is the major project. The walls still need to be sheet-rocked (the ceiling is done) and fixtures installed. After that… some finish work and the dividers and the boys will have a new bath house for next summer. We still need about $ 15,000 to complete the project and I am looking forward with anticipation to see how God is going to meet this need. Go to the “Bath House Project” page to see pictures and get more information.
There have been several changes to the web site as we seek to keep everyone up to date using this tool. First is the small calendar in the side bar. Each HGBBC event is listed for each month or you can download the calendar for the year using the icalendar button located at the top. There is also a place to sign up to receive the HGBBC News Letter through email. If you do not get the News Letter then take a moment to sign up! Tell others to sign up too as we build our News Letter mailing list. This saves us a ton of money on postage. If you did not receive the last News Letter you can see it HERE!
You can also donate online now using your credit card or Pay Pal account… to the general expenses of HGBBC or specifically for the bath house project on the “Bath House Project” page. We are working on integrating this process into our online registration as well so you can pay for retreats as well as summer camp online with your credit card.
New summer pictures went up a few weeks back and there is also a page of our family pictures.
All in all… I am overwhelmed at God’s goodness in so many different ways! I am excited about what God is going to do here at HGBBC in 2010 should He not return. Pursue God! Be faithful! It will not be long for any of us before we worship Him in His presence!
Wow, it is hard to believe the summer program is already over and that we are now headed into retreat season! I praise the Lord for the work that He did in hearts and lives this summer… He is indeed a great and loving God. Many lives were challenged from God’s Word and some responded and were changed. Some now look forward to a home in heaven with their Lord. Others have the hope that they do not have to be dominated by sin. Still others have surrendered their will to their Master and know the joy of service. God is good in so many different ways. To Him be the glory!
We now look forward to changing gears and ministering to hearts and lives through the retreats we offer through out the winter. (yes… winter is coming quickly) Go to the retreats page and take a look at the upcoming retreats.
Just an update on the bath house project. All of the framing is done and most of the plumbing and electric is done. We are now to the boiler and sheet rock stage. Please pray that the Lord would give wisdom concerning the boiler system as well as the many other details to be considered. We still have to connect the water supply and electric as well as install the septic system. Stay tuned for a possible work day for installing sheet rock! Also go to the photo galleries page and see the pictures of the bath house. (some are bigger pictures and may take a while to load)
Last but certainly not least, continue to pray that God would be glorified in and through everything that takes place here at Higher Ground!
There are new 2009 summer pictures up on the photo gallery page!
Also the information concerning canoe camp and college and career retreat is up. Information concerning ladies retreat will soon follow!
Wow! It hardly seems like the end of Junior Week! Just a few weeks ago we were in the middle of preparation for camp to start and now it is drawing toward a close. Time sure flys when you are having fun!
God has been good and we praise His Name for all that He has accomplished here at camp this summer. There have been several salvation decisions as well as many other decisions… all for His honor and glory. Please pray that God will continue to work in the lives of those that made decisions at camp. Pray as well for those who heard the gospel but whose heart was calloused and hardned that God would continue to send His Spirit to draw in mercy and grace.
I certainly praise the Lord for the wonderful staff that He provided for the summer. What a blessing! It will be hard to see them go… but exciting to see what God has for them in the future.
Last, but not least… pursue God!
