Welcome to HGBBC’s new web site! Our site has been redesigned from the ground up to make it more mobile friendly. (they say almost 40% of all browsing is done on tablets or mobile devices now) Feel free to browse around… just keep in mind that it is not entirely finished yet and there may still be some quirks in the design… and the designer. Remember… patience is a virtue.
We are in the middle of winter here at camp. The contrast between the peddle-to-the-metal pace of summer and the quiet stillness of a snow covered ball field is quite amazing. While there are not many people around right now (other than the usual traffic to and from the Craven household… which is considerable) the work goes on. Obviously I have been dreaming of “quotation marks”, semi-colons; padding and href=”links” for a while now. Hope you like the new web site! Next on the agenda is all of the design for the summer program… team mascots, summer t-shirts, brochures (for summer camp, canoe camp and stretcher) and web pages for each of these. In between all of this there is maintenance on the plow truck, new counters for the kitchen, refinish the floors for the kitchen and bath rooms, stain beams for the pavilion… and a host of other projects.
Speaking of the pavilion… we are well on our way to having a covered place for Stretchers to meet next summer. The area is cleared, the posts are set and the gravel for the base has been delivered. We were able to cut enough trees here on the property to mill the beams for the roof structure. (a huge thanks to Mr. T. for doing the mill work for us!) Lord willing this spring (think “work day” and listen for more information) we can begin setting the beams and putting the metal on!
Another huge blessing this winter has been the donation of a wood fired boiler for heating the house. It was a great feeling when I shut off the valve to the fuel tank (and no, I am not against drilling for more oil) and turned off the breaker to the hot water heater. (neither am I against electricity) The savings in fuel oil cost and electricity should be considerable. Good thing Becky likes wood smoke smell… that is my new aura!
Looking into February Becky and I are anticipating attending a camp directors conference called “Tweakage Rondevous.” (you can’t expect a normal name for a camp directors conference) We were able to attend this conference 4 years ago and were tremendously blessed and encouraged. We are looking forward to getting some new ideas for camp as well as enjoying the fellowship with other like minded camp directors.
Some of you have asked about winter projects and how you can help. If you are interested in helping out with a project let me know and we can coordinate our schedules and get some work done here at camp. You will have to put up with the clan… but hey, it beats sleeping outside!
As we near Christmas my heart is overwhelmed when I consider that the creator and ruler of all things left the unimaginable worship, praise and splendor of heaven to be born in a stable. And He came for purpose of going to a cross to pay my sin debt! “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!” May your heart be overwhelmed at God’s love, mercy and grace during this holiday season.
Hey… if there is ever any way that we can be a blessing please let us know! You can’t miss the contact form!
