Summer is over!
Summer is past… and only what was done for Christ will last! That thought is both encouraging and sobering as my mind goes back over the events of summer camp.
It is encouraging because of all that was done for Christ this summer at camp. What a joy it is to serve the King of King and Lord of Lords! Every hour spent in service to Him will count for eternity… whether it was mowing grass, washing dishes, serving food or sharing the Word.
God was good in bringing in the people, both staff and campers. We had a wonderful, very energetic staff with servant’s hearts this summer. I enjoyed ministering to them and with them throughout the summer. Many hours were poured into the lives of the campers each week. While camp work can sometimes be long and tiring, every hour spent sharing the Word, enabling others to share the Word or just breaking down barriers so the Word would be received was well worth it. It is always hard to see the staff leave at the end of the summer but I greatly anticipate hearing how God continues to work in their lives and use them for His glory.
God also brought in a wonderful group of campers. What a bunch of precious souls! Some came with hearts eager to hear and apply the Word. Some came seeking truth. Some came with hearts set against the truth. But in each case, by God’s grace and for His glory, we were able to share the truth with them… hopefully coupled with a heart of love and a spirit of humility. Some decided to believe and apply the truth. Pray that they would faithful in those decisions and continue to grow. Some rejected the truth. Pray that God would continue to work in their lives and draw them to Himself.
Summer is past… and only what was done for Christ will last! I can’t go back and reclaim missed opportunities but I can learn from the past and purpose in my heart to focus on eternity in the future. As the days grow darker the opportunities grow greater! Now more than ever we can shine as lights in a dark world. Now more than ever young people need to hear the truth and learn to apply it to their daily lives.
“He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”
With the end of the summer season comes a drastic change in gears. The camp site goes from people abounding everywhere to empty inside just a few days. Now it is time to repair everything that broke during the busy summer season and focus on Fall retreats.
We have a work team coming up from Grace Baptist Church in Muncie Indiana the last part of August into the first part of September. I am really looking forward to meeting and working alongside other brothers and sisters in Christ as they take part in our camp ministry. Lord willing we will begin work on the low ropes course as well as do some much needed cabin renovation. Click for more information or to be a part of that project
We also have a Ladies Retreat coming up on September 17-19. “Bring on the Heat” and learn about the “Three Trees” and how they relate to your heart when the pressures of life come. Come enjoy a great time of fellowship with other ladies as well as be challenged from God’s Word. (click on the picture for more information)
Men’s Retreat is coming up as well. Dr. Ernie Schmidt will be challenging us from the Word as “Men from the Past Speak to Us Today.” Men, mark October 15-17 on your calendars… we would love to see you here! (click on the picture for more information)
Wherever this newsletter may find you I hope you are rejoicing in your salvation and serving our Lord. Continue to keep camp in your prayers… we want to faithfully serve Him until we see Him face to face… whether that be when He returns or when He calls us home!
